Barkley Regional Airport Has Groundbreaking for New Terminal
November 6, 2020
Barkley Regional Airport representatives and local and state officials held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the construction of the new airport terminal complex. Airport Board Chairman George Bray says this new terminal project will create a beautiful front door for our community and a bridge to new economic and aviation developments. The new complex will house a commercial terminal and provide space for industrial and commercial development in areas adjacent to the site. The airport has received $5 million from the state and more than $19 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration for this estimated $42 million project. The terminal building is being designed with construction to start in 2021. The terminal is tentatively scheduled to open to the public in 2023. This first phase includes dirt work, bringing utilities to the site, relocating an automated weather station, and constructing both a new access road for the terminal and a new aircraft apron.
