Small Town Big Idea Fall 2016
Paducah Economic Development is excited to sponsor this year’s Small Town Big Idea pitch competition and entrepreneur workshops. With a desire to see entrepreneurs and local businesses succeed in Paducah, Kentucky, Paducah Economic Development believes Small Town Big Idea is an awesome tool to make great ideas come to life right here in our community.
Small Town Big Idea was created under the dream of Paducah becoming a community of empowered entrepreneurs, empowering other entrepreneurs. Through the form of educational workshops and practical, yet inspirational resources, Small Town Big Idea wants to help small businesses and aspiring business men and women pitch ideas to investors and establish business plans. Jonas Neihoff, the founder of STBI, has experienced first hand the highs and lows of starting a business. He has spent the past five years growing Socially Present, a successful marketing agency located in Paducah, KY.
When asked what inspired him to spearhead Small Town Big Idea, he responded, “Small Town Big Idea originated from the idea that you don’t have to come from a large city to turn your great idea into a successful, thriving business. However, what we have noticed is that entrepreneurs want to launch their big ideas, but often struggle with some of the various steps along the way. Sometimes it’s funding, while other times it’s simply needing education in a certain area of the business process.”
Small Town Big Idea is the solution to this problem. Participants in the Small Town Big Idea workshops will receive the basic training needed to get their start as an entrepreneur and make their dreams a reality. This year’s events will feature four sessions, which will explore the following topics: Problem & Product, Process & Policy, People & Promotion, and Profit. Each workshop will feature two speakers who are successful in the area of their workshop. Each will share their stories and expertise in a specific area of business. Each workshop will end with a time of question and answer.
At the end of the four workshops, there will be a pitch competition. Entrepreneurs will use their new knowledge to complete a concise business pitch (Shark Tank style). The winner of the pitch competition will receive a cash prize and a wide array of services from sponsors including legal, accounting, consulting, marketing services and more.
The Small Town Big Idea workshops will be held at the Commerce Center in the Paducah Bank Community room at 300 South 3rd St. Paducah, KY 42001. The seminars will last from 6PM-8PM. Participants can enroll at the Small Town Big Idea website: http://www.smalltownbigidea.com/
