Drive along Kentucky Avenue and you will find a modern take on an old warehouse. Courtney and Corey Smith brought all things events to Paducah and created a showroom for their guests to visualize their ideal wedding and event. Walk inside, and you will be welcomed by a plethora of colorful and eccentric furniture and decor from chairs of all shapes and sizes to church pews lined along the wall of Prim & Proper Events.

Courtney and Corey Smith officially opened their business on Kentucky Avenue in January of this year. The newlyweds are young professionals who took a leap of faith to open Prim & Proper Events, and chose to relocate to Paducah from Madisonville.

Courtney is from Graves County and Corey is from Louisville. The couple met at Murray State University and continued to live in Murray after graduation. Corey took a job in Murray and Courtney found a job in Paducah where she commuted to daily. On the side, Courtney worked her event planning business, a side business she started after being inspired from a family friend in college.

“It got to the point where that we had to decide if we were going to commit to events or not do it. We needed to be all in or nothing,” says Courtney Smith.

The couple took a leap of faith and left their full-time jobs to open Prim & Proper Events. They chose to purchase the inventory of a business in Madisonville and built a solid clientele by staying in the same building as the previous company to get them on their feet. It was a great business move, because before they knew it they were outgrowing their space in Madisonville and found themselves commuting along West Kentucky Parkway so often that the location no longer seemed to fit Prim & Proper Events.

When the opportunity to move into a family home in Paducah popped up, the couple decided Paducah would be the perfect place for their business.

“We’re excited about Paducah!” Says Corey.

They shopped for locations and came across their current space while looking at a different building, incidentally. The warehouse along Kentucky Avenue was the perfect fit. Not only is it big enough for their inventory, but also allows guests to come in and visualize their event in a showcase setting.

“I love when people come in and fall in love with one of our pieces,” says Courtney.

Plus, it is within close proximity to some of Paducah’s most popular event venues and easy access for clients. Courtney also loves that their building is accessible from Broadway.

Prim & Proper Events is a “complete turn-key service” for your event needs. Courtney and Corey can do everything including coordinating with vendors, caterers and supplying in-house flowers. They are happy to work with other event coordinators and vendors and can do as little or as much as needed for their clients. As for their style? “Our style is a unique wedding for everyone—if that is a style!” Says Courtney. They go with the flow and coordinate to the trends. Right now boho and eclectic types of styles are trending. But Courtney and Corey can decorate to fit their client’s style. From elegant ballrooms to boho outdoor events.

“I want people to tell it is our style and our stuff, but I want every event to look different,” says Courtney.

Prim & Proper Events is located at 709 Kentucky Avenue, Paducah, KY 42003.
