Jerrell Performance Horses & Clayton Jerrell

Clayton Jerrell is an American Quarter Horse Association Professional Horseman who has achieved many industry awards and trains out of his farm, Jerrell Performance Horses.

Clayton comes from a long line of horseman including his father and grandfather who both train Standardbreds. He started his riding career at 10 years old and learned to ride Tennessee Walking Horses. By the time he turned 12, he transitioned into riding the American Quarter Horse and hasn’t looked back since.

“I saw an opportunity when I was in high school to do what I love for a living and decided to pursue it,” says Clayton Jerrell.

Clayton spent a summer in Florida learning to train from some of the best in the business. After graduating from high school, he moved to work at a farm in Arkansas and then relocated to Lexington to train and instruct for the AQHA Professional Horseman of the Year, Benny Sargent.

A few years later, Clayton decided to move back home to Kevil to train and help his dad with his Standardbred horses where he operates and owns one of the only all-around horse training facilities outside of Lexington, Ky.

“I started with three horses, accumulated six, then nine and now I’m up to 15 horses and had to build a new barn this past winter. The industry is going really good right now and it has been a good turn around for the American Quarter Horse industry,” says Clayton.

Clayton has local customers and many non-local customers from Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana, and other parts of Kentucky who ride and train with Clayton who is one of the few all-around Quarter Horse trainers outside of Lexington.

“I have customers who have purchased several horses from me and I have been very fortunate to have good customers and we have a good working relationship,” says Clayton.

Jerrell Performance Horses is located at 3565 Lester Harris Rd, Kevil, KY.
