Entrepreneur Spotlight: Lakilia Bedeau & B Dynamic Inc.
Tell us a little about your business.
B Dynamic Inc. is a company that focuses on helping others be the best version of self. Our goal is to help individuals with valuable life skills needed to be successful in life. Vision board workshops and parties are our specialties. We believe you are more likely to achieve a goal or dream if you write it down. The company can also tailor professional development to your organization’s needs. The inaugural event for B Dynamic Inc. was held this summer in Paducah, Ky at the Murray State Paducah Campus. The Youth Summit “Life Skills 101” in collaboration with Tornado Alley YSC of Paducah Tilghman brought together community partners from the region along with presenters focusing on essential ‘soft skills.’
How did you develop your business idea or concept?
After working in the education field for ten years, I realize this up in coming generation lack basic life skills. When I speak of life skills or ‘soft skills’, I am referring to communication, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, time management, budgeting, etc. Instead of standing on the sidelines and watching our youth fall through the cracks, I decided to be proactive and do something about it. Oh, the logo is very personal too. The red glasses represent my past. When I was in the first grade, I chose the largest and brightest pair of glasses on the rack. To this day, I don’t know why and how they let me leave with them. Anyway, those glasses went on to cause my life to be, let’s just say tough. I dealt with bullying on a daily basis. And I don’t mean via social media, but face to face. Fast forward, the thing that once tortured me is now serving dual purposes. It’s my company logo and a conversation starter. It reminds me daily that trouble doesn’t always last. Although a person may not see a way out or be able to see clearly, glasses or a “VISION” can be your ticket out of your situation. B Dynamic Inc. is personal and it’s my passion!
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Honestly, there are several reasons why I chose to become an entrepreneur. First, I would have to credit my dad for being an inspiration and a great example of what it means to be an entrepreneur. He taught me the importance of a strong work ethic and compassion. Secondly, my aunt Bracy Wofford, who gave me an opportunity to hone my leadership skills at a young age. She is one of the first people to encourage me to be a leader of change. Lastly, she taught me the power of a “vision” and the importance of giving back.
What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?
I love the flexibility and being the one in charge of my destiny. I enjoy seeing clients have that “aha” moment. It makes the long days and nights worth it. And when you love what you do and you are walking in your purpose, it’s like you aren’t really working at all.
What is your mission with your business?
Our mission is to simply help others be the best version of themselves. And to encourage everyone to, Be YOU with a VISION.
What is it like being an entrepreneur in Paducah?
So far the journey has been rewarding. Working with like-minded individuals who have the youth’s best interest at heart. Because Paducah is such a small community it allows you to build “true” relationships and partnerships.
How does your business benefit the economy of our community?
We are enriching the lives of both the youth and adults. B Dynamic Inc. is helping to “fill the gaps in life knowledge” and helping to produce productive citizens. In the near future, we hope to offer employment to those with the same passion as myself.
